Ursprung ("we", "our") is a product origin finder that shows where products are manufactured. This privacy policy explains how we handle data in the Ursprung browser extension and website (ursprung.fyi).

Data We Collect

• Authentication data: When you sign in, we store a JWT token locally in your browser to authenticate API requests. This token contains your user ID and expiration date.
• Product search queries: When you search for a product, the product name is sent to our server to look up origin data. Searches are counted per user (5 per day) using your user ID.
• Product origin data: We store cached origin results (brand origin, manufacturing countries) locally in your browser to avoid redundant lookups.

How We Use Data

• Product names are used solely to look up brand origin and manufacturing country information from our catalogue and AI-powered search.
• Authentication tokens are used to identify your account and enforce rate limits.
• Cached data is stored locally to improve performance and reduce API calls.

Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect browsing history, personal identifiers, location data, or financial information.
• We do not track your activity on e-commerce websites beyond reading product names to display origin badges.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer user data to third parties.

Data Storage

All data is stored locally in your browser (via localStorage and chrome.storage). Product origin caches and authentication tokens never leave your device except for API calls to ursprung.fyi. Server-side rate limit counters are stored in Redis and identified only by an anonymous user ID.
