How do I use Ursprung?
Type a product name into the search bar and Ursprung will look it up and show you an origin passport with the brand's headquarters and manufacturing locations. You can browse the full catalogue by category or check the trending section to see what others are searching for.
Why the name "Ursprung"?
Ursprung is a Swedish word meaning "origin" or "source." Since we're a small team based in Sweden, the name felt like a natural fit. It captures exactly what the site is about: finding out where things come from.
Why do I only get 5 queries per day?
Ursprung is a small, independent project and each query involves real costs for data lookups and AI analysis. The daily limit keeps things sustainable while we scale up. We're working on increasing this as the project grows.
Where do you get the information?
We combine publicly available data (company registries, trade databases, product catalogues, and manufacturer disclosures) with AI-powered analysis to fill in the gaps. Results may include links to the original data sources where available.
Will more EU languages be added?
Yes. We're committed to making Ursprung equally accessible across all EU languages and are actively working on expanding language support.
What do the classification colours mean?
Each product passport shows a colour-coded classification based on two factors: where the brand is headquartered and where the product is manufactured.
EU Brand • Made in EU The brand is headquartered in the EU and at least some manufacturing takes place within the EU.
EU Brand • Made outside EU The brand is EU-based but no manufacturing takes place within the EU.
Non-EU Brand • Made in EU A non-EU brand, but at least some manufacturing takes place in the EU.
Non-EU Brand • Made outside EU A non-EU brand with no manufacturing in the EU.
Mixed classifications appear when manufacturing happens in both EU and non-EU countries.
What happens to my search data?
In line with our commitment to transparency and privacy protection, your search data is stored locally on your device and is never stored on our servers. Any product lookups are processed using only EU-based servers. Users can optionally submit products to our public catalogue, which requires admin approval before appearing publicly. We do not track, sell, or share your search history with third parties.
